Investigates dance as an ever-changing cultural, political, and historical phenomenon, focusing on dance genres and movements primarily practiced in the United States. Examines dance on and off the stage, in the studio and club, and as performed by everyday and legendary dance artists. Covers multiple genres, including tap, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, and ballet, through theory, video, audio, and guest artists. Incorporates viewing and attending performances. Introduces technical dance skills and choreography through class participation. Satisfies GE area: 3A
