Catalog description

Concepts, technologies, applications and programming of Internet of Things (IoT). Includes review of current challenges and recent advances in IoT field, resource-constrained computer systems, sensing technologies, edge computing, cloud computing, mobile app development, security issues of IoT systems and network connectivity using low energy communication protocols such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Advanced high-level programming tools will be used to integrate the entire system, with demonstrator applications such as a smartphone remote controlled weather station. CS 488 and CS 688 are dual-listed. The courses may be taught together by the same instructor. May not be taken for credit by students who received credit for: CS 488 or CS 697-1. Prerequisite(s)/Corequisite(s): CS 537 .
