Catalog description

Introduces science majors to basic theory and practical application of instrumental methods of chemical separation and structure determination. Covers chromatography (GC/HPLC), spectrometry (atomic absorption, mass, infrared, ultraviolet, and proton and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance). Laboratory experiments illustrate the basic techniques of chemical separation and structure determination. Three hours of lecture. Six hours of laboratory. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 202 , CHEM 202L , CHEM 275 , CHEM 300 , and PHYS 202 with a minimum grade of C (2.0).
