Introduces the theory and practice of modern protein biochemistry. Covers bacterial transformation, antibiotic selection, heterologous protein expression, cell harvesting, cell lysis, centrifugation, affinity chromatography, ion-exchange chromatography, size-exclusion chromatography, hydrophobic-interaction chromatography, dialysis, ultrafiltration, protein precipitation, desalting, bioconjugation, SDS-PAGE, UREA-PAGE, densitometry, fluorescence spectroscopy, western blotting, enzyme activity assays, and in-vitro translation. One hour of lecture. Three hours of laboratory. Prerequisite(s): ( CHEM 341 or CHEM 351 ) and ( CHEM 351L or BIOT 355 or BIOL 351 ).
