Catalog description

First course of a sequence designed to introduce the student majoring in science to the properties of organic compounds. The entire sequence covers bonding, structure, stereochemistry, nomenclature, chemical and physical properties of each functional group, acid/base phenomena, reaction mechanisms and kinetics, organic synthesis, and an introduction to spectroscopic structure determination. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 160 or CHEM 162 with a minimum grade of C (2.0). Prerequisite(s)/Corequisite(s): CHEM 201L .
