Catalog description

Broadens the knowledge of determinants of educational attainment of immigrant children in the U.S. Assesses the needs of newcomer students and the capacity of public schools to respond to those needs. Provides an historical overview of immigrants in public schools. Examines the legal framework of immigration and settlement policies. Analyzes ideological debates of key issues of immigration and education. Explores issues of education and social justice. Evaluates the possibilities for a common ground in education between newcomers and established residents. Enrollment Restrictions: Enrollment restricted to students with Junior or Senior standing. Satisfies GE area: UD4
