Principles of Conservation Biology

Catalog description

An in-depth focus on the principles and practices of conservation and restoration ecology. Factors that affect the creation, destruction, and distribution of biological diversity are examined. Class discussions and assignments will focus on human destruction and degradation of habitats, invasive species introductions, accelerated species extinctions, pollution, global climate change, and species over-exploitation. The selection and maintenance of conservation areas will be explored, as well as the theory and methodology for restoring degraded habitats. BIOL 463 is dual-listed with BIOL 663 . These courses will be taught together by the same instructor. May not be repeated for credit by students who have received credit for BIOL 363. May not be taken for credit by students who received credit for: BIOL 663 . Field trip(s) during or outside of class (including weekends) may be required. Prerequisite(s)/Corequisite(s): BIOL 354 .
