Psychology of Gender

Catalog description

Examines how psychologists have addressed questions relating to gender in past and present-day research. The goal is to understand what “gender” is, and how and when gender matters in our evaluations of ourselves and in our interactions with others. It will have four themes: (1) defining gender and sex and challenging the binary system; (2) stereotypes and sexism, (3) gender in relationships; and (4) gender and well-being. It encourages students to think critically about the material, engage with the assignments, and to ask questions during office hours, on the discussion board, or through email. Students will be challenged to think about how their personal experiences can be better understood based on theory and research around the psychology of gender.
