Catalog description

Examines the foundational role of set theory in mathematics as a whole, as well as a mathematical and philosophical understanding of infinity and the transfinite ordinals and cardinals. Set theory was developed in the 19th century, and has since come to be regarded as the appropriate foundation for all of mathematics. Set theory is also the branch of mathematics that deals most explicitly with the concept of infinity.
