Decolonizing Methodologies in Public Health Research

Catalog description

Introduces students to decolonization as a methodological approach. Together we will identify knowledge as it emanates from a wide variety of sources and recognize community expertise as necessary for Public Health research. Students will explore approaches to developing research questions and approaches (e.g., inductive, ethnographic, qualitative methods) that support decolonizing Public Health research. Participants will learn about the differences between decolonizing, postcolonial, and participatory approaches to research and the implications each approach has for community driven and engaged public health interventions.
