Introduction to Proof-Writing in Mathematics

Catalog description

Introduces writing mathematical arguments and in particular, proofs. We will discuss quantifiers and connectors – the building blocks of the mathematical language, and explore their use in mathematical statements. Students will learn various proof-writing techniques and practice their knowledge on proving results in number theory, linear algebra, and real analysis. In this manner this course will also serve as an essential stepping stone to success in upper-division mathematics courses.
