Satisfies Experiential Learning. APPELLATE ADVOCACY: CIVIL provides students the opportunity to work in teams to increase their practical skills and knowledge of research, brief-writing, oral argument and appellate rules, standards and practice. The course is taught by appellate specialists and practitioners, and the case is a cutting-edge legal issue on appeal to the Supreme Court. The students work intensely on their advocacy skills to develop and polish their style and substance. Students complete an appellate brief and oral argument and observe appellate arguments in the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court located just one block from UC Law San Francisco. Students in Appellate Advocacy also participate in the UC Law SF Intramural Competition, the David E. Snodgrass Moot Court Competition. They are rewarded for their excellence in both oral and written advocacy with scholarships, awards and prizes. The overall Snodgrass winner is honored by having their name engraved on the perpetual plaque, which is displayed year-round at UC Law San Francisco.
