Catalog description
May be used to satisfy the Writing Requirement. This seminar will cover a series of topics arising in the comparative study of constitutional systems. The topics will include several of the following: abortion and reproductive rights, problems of minorities (racial, ethnic, religious, and language), federalism, gender equality, and the constitutionalization of social welfare rights. In addition, the seminar will explore some fundamental questions about the nature of a constitution, the process of constitution-making, different forms of judicial review, and different kinds of political constraints on constitutional rights and constitutional courts.
