Local governments regulate the spaces where we live our daily lives. They also regulate the environmental, social, and economic consequences of land use. This seminar addresses these regulatory techniques, including zoning, general planning, and subdivision mapping, and relates them to the practical and political aspects of land-development processes. The word "applied" in the course title is meant to convey that this is a practice-oriented seminar. This seminar can be taken as a standalone class or concurrently with or after students have taken Land Use Law (LAW*551). Land Use Law provides an introduction to and overview of land use law and policy, whereas this Applied Land Use Seminar focuses on application of the law to land-use practice.
