EMPLOYMENT LAW

Catalog description

This course provides a survey of the common law and statutory principles that affect all aspects of modern employment. Among the topics to be studied are: the nature of the employment contract, the at-will rule and its limitations, employee privacy and mobility issues (e.g., employee monitoring, covenants not to compete), wage and hour law, health and safety conditions, and non-discrimination statutes. There is some overlap with the Employment Discrimination and Labor Law courses, but not enough to preclude students from enrolling in all three, which are designed to be complementary. Employment Discrimination is recommended but not required. Note: Students previously enrolled in MLS 089 may not enroll in this course.
