ELECTION LAW

Catalog description

This class will look at the major principles that govern democracy in the United States, and how they have developed over time. Among them are: the constitutional framework designed to make the nation a republic, the right to vote, the role of race in determining who gets to vote, the Voting Rights Act, one person one vote, policies and practices that impact voting or effective voting (including partisan gerrymandering and voter I.D.), and money and politics. Recent legal developments will be considered. Grades will be based on class participation and a final exam.
