SCIENTIST TO LAWYER

Catalog description

This is an optional enrichment course to help 1L students who have degrees in the hard sciences--e.g. chemistry, computer science, biology, etc.--transition to legal writing and reasoning. Students whose academic experiences lie mainly in the hard sciences may have had little occasion to engage in any writing other than reports of scientific data. In addition, scientific reasoning frequently focuses on considering only directly supportive data and identifying the single best of all possible alternatives, which contrasts with the legal reasoning approach required in law school. This class gives students with science backgrounds a jump-start into law school.
