ALOHA: Self and Society

Catalog description

This course invites graduate learners into a navigational journey grounded in Indigenous epistemologies and integral systems thinking. Drawing on the Guiding Principles of A.L.O.H.A. (Ask, Listen, Observe, Heart-Focus, Adapt), students will explore ceremony, storytelling, embodied practice, and systemic analysis as pathways toward educational resilience, intergenerational healing, and cultural coherence. Anchored in Native Hawaiian star-based navigation metaphors, the course uses ?ohana (family/community) frameworks, systemic paradigms, and integral inquiry to guide students in reclaiming personal and ancestral wisdom while cultivating leadership practices rooted in pilina (relationship), pono (balance), and kuleana (responsibility). By weaving Indigenous wisdom traditions, integral philosophy, and contemporary leadership studies, the course positions personal transformation as a seed for systemic change-in education, community life, and planetary consciousness. Priority registration to TID students.
