Catalog description
This course explores the various schools of family therapy, including a broad range of contemporary and foundational theories in working with families and understanding family systems. Study of theories, principles, and methods of a variety of psychotherapeutic orientations directly related to marriage and family therapy and marital and family systems approaches to treatment, including non-traditional families and relationships, and how these theories can be applied therapeutically to improve, restore, or maintain healthy relationships. There will be a strong experiential component involving in-depth study of each student's family of origin through various interactional and creative formats. In the lab, each student will have an opportunity to practice conducting a role-play family therapy session. RESTRICTED TO ICPH STUDENTS
