Catalog description
The goal of this course is to complete your dissertation and graduate with your PhD. This course relies on the independent scholarship and initiative of Human Sexuality PhD (HSX) Candidates to complete all requirements to earn a PhD. The dissertation project is initiated by you and is moved forward via your active management (in close coordination with your Dissertation Chair). The professor of this course guides this process with the doctoral candidate and their dissertation committee. Your dissertation manuscript is the written presentation of your dissertation project and must demonstrate your capacity for advanced scholarship and inquiry. As part of the culminating academic work for the doctoral program in Human Sexuality, you are required to make new contributions to knowledge in the field and to base your work on rigorous, evidence-based research. Once the dissertation manuscript is completed, you will defend your research in a public forum held via Zoom (the Dissertation Defense), to which the entire university and the public are invited to attend. Once you pass the defense, your committee may request edits to your dissertation manuscript. These edits must be completed within 30 days of the defense. Once those edits are complete to the satisfaction of the dissertation chair, you work with a technical editor to complete final edits to the manuscript to be published in the CIIS dissertation database. Only after the manuscript is published in the dissertation database can a student be conferred their degree and participate in the next-soonest graduation ceremony. Registration is limited to HSX students who have successfully completed the dissertation proposal, advanced to candidacy (All But Dissertation; ABD) as indicated by the registrar, and is in good academic standing. Until you have defended your dissertation, you must ALWAYS be registered for BOTH HSX 9900 AND HSX 9901 for each semester. HSX 9900 indicates your dissertation chair selection. RESTRICTED TO HSX PhD STUDENTS WHO'VE ADVANCED TO CANDIDACY
