Catalog description
Building upon the activities in your Coaching Praxis developed by you and your instructors during prior retreats and in Coaching Practicum Skills Lab (taken in the second semester), this course prepares students to develop and meet the academic and coaching/facilitation competencies for effective practice within the professional scope of work for coaches, including professional ethics outlined by the International Coaching Federation, the Board Certified Coach exam, and the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association. This course provides the means for students to present, analyze, and critique the group and individual expressive arts coaching processes conducted in their respective sites of praxis. Concepts learned during the didactic part of the program are reviewed and applied to coaching and community building work with individual clients, groups, organizations, and communities. Artwork, dramatic enactment, movement and music are integrated with discussion and self-analysis in an attempt to help the student articulate the basis of practice and hone their craft for coaching and community-building work. The modeling of creating a safe container, working experientially with client material as well as personal material, learning through experience, and discussion about the transformative nature of creative expression provides opportunities to advance their coaching/facilitating presence and understand how to create and maintain a safe container for transformative coaching processes. Priority Registration to EXCC students.
