Catalog description
Rooted in Joanna Macy's pioneering work, this course explores various approaches that conceive of our planet-home as a wise teacher tirelessly signaling the way back to our true nature. Eastern contemplative traditions, systems thinking, permaculture, and ecopsychologies help nurture a fresh outlook of Earth as home, teacher, healer, and self. Through lectures, experiential exercises, ritual, and dialogue, participants will be invited to awaken to their earthly expression, disarm their own actions that systematically endanger the planet, and connect with an enlarged sense of vitality and purpose. All the while we will highlight the various eco-dharmic contributions of Macy's work to the "Great Turning", or a shift toward life-honoring ways of being. The question will be asked: "How might we cultivate a deeper, life-affirming engagement with ourselves and the living Earth in the midst of global unrest and widespread overwhelm?"
