Catalog description

This methods course explores critical historical, conceptual, and theoretical foundations of decolonizing methodology as transformative praxis for actively centering the concerns of non-western communities and knowledge systems in research design. Drawing from globally diverse perspectives, students will explore the ethics of the relationship between epistemology and research, critically analyzing how we privilege western knowledge in our inquiries, rendering "Other" knowledge obsolete. The learning in this course is designed to support students' departmental-specific training in methods, focusing on decolonial qualitative and quantitative design principles in combination with other theoretical approaches that center on researcher self-reflexivity.
