Senior Sem: Thinking & Writing

Catalog description

This foundational course (re)introduces students to essential components of academic reading and writing. We will engage the following questions: What is my learning style? What is critical thinking? What is scholarly writing? What does it mean to develop an academic voice and how does this translate to writing? We will explore different genres of academic writing, explore multiple critical thinking strategies such as Heuristics that can reduce the cognitive demand associated with certain decision-making tasks such as information redundancy and subjective probability judgements. We will also explore heuristics identifying Cognitive Biases and Logical Fallacies. The class is grounded in discussion, experiential exercises, writing prompts, small group collaboration, and reflection. Students will craft a Personal Narrative Essay as a possible foundation for your Senior Project in Semester 3. RESTRICTED TO UNDERGRADUATES
