Catalog description

Mechanisms of Disease II (MOD-II) expands on the first year MOD-I course in terms of understanding the fundamental principles underlying the mechanisms of disease. The MOD II course material covers the common mechanisms utilized by cells and tissues to react to injury or dysregulation caused by various pathogenic agents and the diseases that result. Topics in this course include the pathogenic mechanisms, morphological features, and the clinical presentation and management of major etiologic classes of disease, which include cellular injury and response to stress, inflammation and tissue repair mechanisms, hemodynamic disorders, genetic basis of disease, infectious diseases, and the environmental and nutritional impact on disease development. The course expands on the microbiological and pharmacological concepts introduced in the first year of medical school.
