Course Description: Dante’s literary vision of heaven in the Divine Comedy, Paradiso, with focus on reading the poem in cultural context. Ethical problems of salvation and damnation; universality and difference; mysticism, fantasy, and imagination; relationship between body and soul; free will vs fate; medieval astrology; paradise in art and society.
