Course Description: Political and cultural history of France from Wars of Religion through 1870, using historical documents, painting, architecture, music. Versailles and absolutism, revolts and revolutions, the industrial transformation of Paris, the role of women and minorities in society, and France’s relationship with the broader world. Practice reading, writing, and speaking French.
