Course Description: French cultural history through fashion. How artists, writers, photographers, and filmmakers depict a world where clothing reflects social transformations, including urbanization, changing political and class structures, evolving gender roles, global and colonial relationships, and concerns about ethics, including environmental and social justice. Fashion Icons and designers whose work shaped France such as Marie Antoinette, Louis XIV, Coco Chanel, Dior, Saint-Laurent.
