Two hours lecture and two hours activity per week This course introduces the principles and methods of sexual (seed) and asexual (vegetative) plant propagation. Emphasis will be placed on California species in agricultural field crop, nursery, and controlled-environment applications. Topics include preparation and use of propagating and planting media, plant growth regulators, planting, transplanting, fertilization, irrigation, pest and disease identification and control, site layout, and the use and maintenance of common tools and equipment. Activity section will include individual and group exercises illustrating propagation techniques such as cuttings, layering, grafting, budding, micropropagation (tissue culture), and seed propagation.
