Catalog description

Three hours lecture per week Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Masters Program in Mathematics The main purpose of this course is for students to gain insight from the mathematics education research literature on teaching practices. Specifically students will explore inquiry-oriented mathematics instruction, math task construction, discourse practices, scaffolding, decentering, and strategies for supporting equitable mathematics classrooms. Additionally, the course addresses attributes of teachers that influence the nature of their instruction, including teacher knowledge and beliefs.
