Three hours per week Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Masters Program in Mathematics The primary objective of this course is to introduce a number of major learning theories that have guided mathematics education over the past fifty years: (a) behavorism; (b) information processing; (c) Piagetian constructivism; (d) situated cognition; (e) Vygotsky’s cultural-historical perspective; (f) Cobb and Yackel’s emergent perspective; and (g) embodied cognition.
