Catalog description

Three hours lecture per week Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Golden Four GE Areas (1A, 1B, 1C, 2) This course explores the various factors (e.g., biological, psychological, social, economic, political) that impact the health and well-being of older adults in the US and around the globe. Topics explored include aging theories, social determinants of health as they related to elder experiences, and inequities in aging. Students will examine cultural and family influences on aging attitudes, diverse living arrangements and care options, and the policies and programs addressing aging-related issues. Students will also examine culturally sensitive approaches to supporting healthy aging and addressing the challenges faced by aging populations.
