Catalog description

Three hours lecture per week Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Golden Four GE Areas (1A, 1B, 1C, 2) Explore the dynamic relationship between humans and the environment through historical perspectives. This course examines key events such as the Columbian Exchange, the Industrial Revolution, and environmental movements, with an emphasis on how humans have transformed and been shaped by the natural world. Students will critically engage with historical methodologies, analyze the transfer of plants, animals, and diseases across continents, and evaluate the environmental impacts of imperialism and industrialization. The course culminates in a major research project exploring historical interactions with the environment, fostering a deeper understanding of social, cultural, and ecological change.
