Environmental Ethics

Catalog description

Three hours lecture per week Introduces major environmental ethical themes and how humanity’s relationship with the natural world has evolved across cultures and time. Students examine Western and non-Western ethical theories, historical milestones such as the Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution, and contemporary issues including climate change, restoration, wilderness, species protection, and environmental justice. Emphasis on constructing ethical arguments and justifications for environmental decision making using evidence from scientific, cultural, and historical sources.
