Introduction to Environmental Statistics

Two hours lecture and two hours activity per week This course introduces students to foundational statistical concepts and tools essential for environmental science and resource management. Students will develop quantitative and analytical skills through practical applications of open-source software such as R, alongside accessible non-command line tools like Excel, JMP, and Tableau. Analytical topics include parametric and non-parametric methods, probability distributions, hypothesis testing, and regression analysis. Coursework emphasizes data management, quality assurance, and visualization, with a focus on interpreting environmental and social science data. By the end of the course, students will gain confidence in using statistical methods to explore and analyze complex environmental problems.
