Catalog description

Three hours seminar per week Prerequisite(s): Admission to English MA Degree Study of literature in its relation to culture, with attention to how texts construct individual and collective identities and circulate, contest, and critique values. Readings span genres and media and are paired with key theoretical perspectives that connect texts to the experiences of specific communities. Emphasis falls on clear, evidence-based interpretation attentive to genre, form, and context, and on translating those insights into student-facing prompts and short analytical tasks. By the end of the course, students can model and teach foundational practices of literary analysis for college-level settings.
