Catalog description

Three hours seminar per week Prerequisite(s): Admission to the English MA Degree Examines composition theory and pedagogy to prepare experienced high-school English teachers for teaching first-year college composition, grounding instructional choices in theorized, well-reasoned practice and addressing both theoretical and practical issues in the teaching of writing. Topics include writing as epistemology and ideology, rhetoric, revision, evaluation and assessment, approaches to research, multilingual writing and language diversity, and reflective pedagogy and teaching practices; students apply these frameworks to design course materials and concise rationales for college-level contexts.
