Three hours lecture per week This foundational course provides an overview of early childhood education (birth-age 8) including current issues and public policies that affect the field. Students are introduced to professional roles and settings, major program types, NAEYC standards, core learning theories, and the essentials of developmentally appropriate practice. The course emphasizes equity, anti-bias education, support for multilingual learners, and inclusive education for children with disabilities. Focusing on children within the proximal settings of home, school, and community, it underscores the importance of family and community partnerships and fosters ethical professionalism in early learning contexts.
