Research and Writing Methods: Approaches and Theories in Black Studies

Catalog description

Three hours lecture per week Recommended: Junior Standing and successful completion of Golden Four GE Areas (1C, 1A, 1B, 2) Exploration of interdisciplinary research methodology-a broader set of scientific beliefs, approaches, inquiries, theories, and analytics-relevant to the study of Black communities and scholarly traditions. Students read, explore, and engage in particular methods-approaches to data collection and analyses- ethnographic, historical/archival, cultural studies, transnational and discursive analyses, performance, community-engaged and participatory research, and mixed methods. Additionally, students will learn how to conceptualize, write, and revise a research paper employing the methods and approaches introduced in this course. This course fulfills the GWAR requirement.
