Catalog description
Three hours lecture per week Examines the intersections of Blackness and Latinidad(es) throughout the Americas. It explores themes of colonialism, resistance, revolt, migration, solidarity, and cultural production among Afro-Latinas/os/xs in Latin America and the United States. Students analyze how histories of enslavement, racialization, and diaspora have shaped Afro-Latinx identities and examine the cultural, political, and artistic expressions that articulate Black and Latinx experiences of belonging, identity, and resistance.
