Catalog description

Three hours lecture per week peek Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Golden Four GE Areas (1A, 1B, 1C, 2) and Junior Standing. Recommended: ARTH 204 Mona Lisa and the Sistine Ceiling, “flying machines” and fortifications: the Renaissance ushered in a new world of visual arts, architecture, and technology. We will explore these developments in and beyond Western and Central Europe, ca. 1400-1600, examining their political, religious, economic, and cultural contexts and analyzing the global impact of the Renaissance, its dialogue with other cultures, and its long-lasting legacy. Students should plan for one off-site museum visit, by arrangement.
