Three hours lecture per week Prerequisite(s): ANTH 102 or ANTH 105 or consent of instructor Recommended: Junior standing Explores archaeological and heritage practices in modern urban environments by examining the development of historic cities. Evaluates the cultural significance of a specific area as it relates to urbanization, architecture, city landscape design, and management through modern times. Considers the economic, environmental, and social problems associated with deindustrialization in American cities. Utilizes archaeological methodologies and heritage management practices to identify the cultural meaning of home, assess the importance of cultural and industrial heritage in cityscapes, and the effects of urbanization on cultural practices and on economic and urban development policies.
