Three hours lecture per week Recommended: Junior standing Explores the fundamentals of how environments deteriorate and alter materials through time and space. Evaluates methods for conserving archeological material by considering multiple factors such as temperature, salinity, and humidity in their long-term preservation. Discusses the challenges of preservation techniques related to geographic location, ownership, funding, and changes in perceived cultural value through time. Utilizes case studies that focus on California’s diverse environment and rich prehistoric and historic heritage.
