Three hours lecture per week Examines the beliefs and practices associated with death, dying, bereavement, and remembrance in different cultures past and present to better understand the cultural, social, and biological nature of human death. Explores the diverse ways people experience and perceive the death of others and their own, how society views death, and how even those who have died continue to affect the lives of those left behind. Topics discussed include end of life care, living wills, remembrance practices, biological and technical definitions of death, while focusing on the anthropological meaning of “a good death.” Repeat 2 times up to 6 units
