Catalog description

Stage Combat offers a beginning study of the principles and practices of contemporary unarmed and rapier stage combat. Topics explored will include a variety of safety standards, storytelling techniques, and practical considerations of staging the illusion of unarmed and armed conflict for the stage. Students will learn principles such as cue-reaction-action, partnering, distance and measure, reversal of energy, the pyramid of safety, and victim-controlled techniques. Principles will be implemented through direct practice and performance of stage combat techniques and choreography.
