Catalog description

This course introduces approaches, strategies, and materials for teaching music at the elementary level (K–6). Students explore developmental characteristics of young learners and learn to design and implement engaging, sequential music lessons that foster musical understanding through singing, movement, listening, and creative activities. Emphasis is placed on pedagogical models such as Orff Schulwerk, Kodály, Dalcroze, and Gordon Music Learning Theory. Students develop skills in lesson planning, classroom management, and the integration of music across the elementary curriculum. Field observations and micro-teaching experiences are required.
