Catalog description

A study of the transformation of musical ideas and styles as they reflect broader changes in culture, aesthetics, and creative identity. Attention is given to shifts in form, genre, and expressive intent, as well as to the expanding roles of composers and performers in society. Through analysis and listening, students investigate how evolving artistic values shaped the relationship between innovation and tradition in Western music.
