Art of Latin America

Catalog description

As an introduction to the ancient Americas, this course will focus on seven major cultures in Mesoamerica (Olmec, Teotihuacan, Maya, and Aztec) and Andean South America (Chavn, Moche, and Inca). The course concludes with the arrival of Spanish explorers in the 16th century and a brief analysis of new visual forms produced in response to new social, political, and religious contexts.
