Catalog description

This course will examine economic and social organization within various cultural contexts. Using historic and modern-day case studies, students will explore the meaning and function of several approaches to exchange (money, trade, prestige economies) and social organization. Using the comparative perspective (ethnology), students will critically consider how interconnected the global economy has become, the importance of the distribution of power in any society and consider personal and ethical implications of these ideas.
