Catalog description

An in-depth exploration of aircraft propulsion systems and the principles governing their performance and design. This course examines the theoretical and functional aspects of aircraft propulsion, beginning with horizontally opposed reciprocating engines and advancing through turbine, turbofan, turbojet, turboprop, ramjet, and hybrid systems. Emphasis is placed on the thermodynamic cycles, component design, and performance characteristics that define each propulsion type. Students will analyze engine efficiency, thrust generation, fuel management, and system integration within modern aircraft. The course integrates engineering theory with operational considerations, providing a foundation for understanding propulsion design, selection, and performance optimization in both general aviation and advanced turbine aircraft.
